Jul 26, 2021 · Region. Apr 4, 2011. #4. As Doug said, "56" is a Russian purity mark standing for 56/96 "Zlotniks" = 585/1000 purity. I agree though that it is odd to have only the "56" mark. In my experience, Swiss watches intended to be exported to Tsarist Russia show the 56 along with either a 14K (or sometimes 14 C) and/or a decimal (.585) mark.
