The French firm of Piel Freres made a range of Egyptian revival jewellery set with these small ceramic plaques which imitated the turquoise and faux turquoise of the ancient Egyptians. The Freres brothers won a gold medal for their work at The Paris Salons exhibition in 1905 (the background and last photos are original photos of the exhibition).
