My boyfriend and I went to Lapis as a way to get from our hotel Secrets Silversands, to Playa del Carmen without having to pay for a taxi. It was explained to us that the Lapis Jewelry Factory offered free shuttle service to the city, the only catch was that you had to spend about 30 minutes in the factory viewing their products.

Lapis factory can be a very expensive free trip. Basically you are shown around and then put what you fancy on a tray and after a bit of chat are told what the cost is. I know very little about jewellery but it does look very nice. Some of it is probably unique so you have nothing to compare with but I left after spending $2800.
