I wish I could take credit for “discovering” these scissors for cutting metal but instructors at Jewelry Arts were already using them by the time I started as a student, 30 years ago or so. Yes, believe it or not they are made for deboning chickens but they work amazing well on cutting the metal sheet thicknesses we most commonly use in the studio, 30 – 24 or 22 gauge.

A few of us in the group had brought our Joyce Chens with us. Marne had never seen them, nor Had anyone else at Revere, as I remember it. Everybody went nuts, and at lunch, everybody at Revere descended on the upscale department stores in the immediate area like a swarm of locusts, and depleted everybody’s inventory of Joyce Chen scissors.Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins

I have been using the Joyce Chen scissors for over 20 years and was the one to give the pair to my friend, Marne. They actually have a lifetime guarantee! You can find them online easily enough. If buying quantities, go to Joyce Chen direct. I buy them by the dozen from them. Amazon has them also. Retail is approx $20. Ronda Coryell Jewelry Studies IntlEstimated Reading Time: 5 mins

Joyce Chen makes a wonderful utility scissor. I've had several pairs through the years and I got these to have as a spare pair. I am hard on them as I use them to cut thin metal sheet (silver, copper, brass) in my jewelry work. They always work like champs and seem to stay sharp much longer than others I've tried.4.8/5(1.3K)

Joyce Chen Scissors. Jewelry Discussion. bethkatz. September 8, 2016, 2:58am #1. These are the best. Relatively speaking they last a long time in the metalsmith world. I use them for sheet and also wire. The interesting thing about the wire is that it makes at least one flat edge when cutting wire. ...

Sep 23, 2010 · I don't cut anything thicker than 22g with joyce chen...I don't think it leaves the metal looking very pretty when you cut thicker than that with joyce chen and it's hard to control because you're having to exert so much pressure. I would say use a jeweler's saw, not either of those shears. Posted at 11:12am Sep 23, 2010 EDT

Aug 15, 2016 · Before I got my Joyce Chen shears, these were my go-to metal scissors. Now I reserve them for slightly heavier gauge metal and finer snips in small areas. They’re precise, they cut clean, and they’re comfortable to use. I’ve cut 20-gauge metal with these easily, and I think they’re rated to cut even heavier gauge metal and wire.
