It is a good resource book, gives a lot of details on the actual HISTORY of jewellery. But relying almost solely on text when writing of something as visual as jewellery is somewhat dry. For an (antique) jewellery aficionado, not so much interested in knowing all the historical facts but more in appreciating the variety, craftmanship, style and beauty of jewellery, this is a wrong book to own.Cited by: 11

Jan 07, 2016 · "7000 Years of Jewelry," by Hugo Tait, is probably the best book ever published on the long history of jewelry. The 256-page publication covers a timeline spanning from 5000 BC to the 20th century. The masterpieces, the ultimate jewelry pieces, the meaning behind designs, and the evolution of the valuable ornaments.

No photograph can capture the true beauty and fire of the world's most beautiful gems, but "Jewelry through the Ages" comes close. Whenever I visit a museum, I always spend at least part of my day drooling over the jewelry exhibits, and this coffee-table-sized, 328-page book (published in 1969) comes close to satisfying that same desire.Cited by: 1
