Children’s jewellery items containing high lead or cadmium levels have been found on the Canadian market. Jewellery containing lead or cadmium which has a protective or decorative coating is not safe, since children can easily chew off the coating. Jewellery for children under 15 years of age must not contain more than 90 mg/kg of total lead.
